CNGVA REPORT FINDS CNG TRUCKS PERFORM WELL IN COLD WEATHER

The Canadian NGV Alliance has made available a report on the cold weather performance of CNG trucks. The report, titled “Evaluation of the Winter Performance of Compressed Natural Gas Refuse Trucks,” finds natural gas trucks perform well and can get the job done, even in some of Canada’s harshest cold weather conditions. The report documents the cold weather operation of a fleet of 18 Peterbilt trucks with Cummins Westport 8.9L engines that have been operating for over two years at winter temperatures as low as 3° Fahrenheit. The main report finding is that factory-built CNG trucks operate well with no issues in cold weather provided normal winter aids are used and the vehicle design is suitable for cold weather. Fleet operator EBI, the Quebec-based waste management company, has since gone on to purchase another 32 CNG trucks.
