TTP Issues Annual Cold Weather Technical Bulletin for Fleet Operators of Gaseous Fueled Vehicles

Includes PRD Technical Guidance, Inspection, and Other Industry Best Practices in Colder Temperatures

Washington, DC – The Transport Project’s (TTP) Technology & Development Committee today issued its annual cold weather advisory for gaseous-fueled vehicles (GFVs).  With the onset of colder temperatures, owners, operators, and inspectors of vehicles powered by natural gas or hydrogen should check for moisture trapped in pressure relief devices (PRDs) and in PRD vent lines which can freeze and cause damage. This reminder becomes especially important during the winter months when freezing temperatures are common.

TTP’s Cold Weather Advisory serves as an inspection reminder for GFV operators and inspectors and includes important industry recommendations and other cold weather operating tips such as:

  • PRD vent system inspection;
  • Engine operating tips;
  • Refueling impacts;
  • Relevant industry codes and standards to reference; and
  • Supporting other fleets and operational safety for the GFV industry as a whole through information dissemination.

This resource is issued on an annual basis as a public service to the GFV industry and easily accessible via TTP’s Resource Center HERE.  Staff contact is TTP’s Director of Technology and Sustainability Paul Sandsted at psandsted@transportproject.org.
