Clean Energy Reports Double-Digit Growth of Redeem Sales in 2017

Clean Energy Fuels announced that sales of Redeem, its renewable natural gas offering, one of the cleanest commercially available fuels, grew by 32 percent in 2017, from 60 million gallons in 2016 to 79 million gallons in 2017. Clean Energy says its 2017 sales volume represents over half of the overall U.S. RNG production as reported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through December.

“We are the leading provider of RNG in North America and as more fleets seek out the economic and environmental benefits of RNG as a vehicle fuel, we are well positioned to maintain and increase that lead in 2018,” said Tyler Henn, vice president and general manager of Clean Energy Renewables. “Programs such as the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) and Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) continue to provide a path for RNG production growth which allows fleets to meet greenhouse gas reduction goals and we have the product and the infrastructure to help them reach those goals.”

Clean Energy also announced it has been awarded a three-year Redeem RNG fueling agreement with North County Transit District (NCTD), the public transportation provider in North San Diego County, California, servicing 11 million passengers annually. The contract calls for Clean Energy to provide 1.5 million GGEs per year to NCTD’s fleet of 167 buses.

Clean Energy launched Redeem in 2013 in California and sold 14 million GGE’s that year. Today it is sold in 20 states to refuse customers like Republic Services, transit customers like LA Metro and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, airport customers like Dallas/Fort Worth International and trucking customers like Ryder and Kroger.

Landi Renzo Earns EPA Certification for 2018 Ford 6.8L Gaseous Prep Engines

Landi Renzo USA has received certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for model year 2018 F-450/550, F-650/750, F-59 and E-450 with 6.8L gaseous prep engines.

The new 6.8L CNG systems are available exclusively through Landi Renzo USA’s distribution network, and Landi Renzo says they have been developed by some of the world’s leading alternative fuel engineers.

Ford maintains the warranty on the base vehicle, while fuel system modifications are warranted by Landi Renzo. System components are designed, developed and integrated in collaboration with OEM’s to ensure the level of quality meets or exceeds OEM standards
With over 1 million systems sold globally each year, Landi Renzo products are distributed worldwide in more than 50 countries through 17 subsidiaries.

North Carolina Clean Fuel Advanced Technology Project Opens Request for Proposals

The North Carolina Clean Energy Technology Center (NCCETC) at N.C. State University has announced a call for projects through the Clean Fuel Advanced Technology (CFAT) Project. The 2018 initiative, focused on reducing transportation-related emissions, is worth $5.6 million and supported with federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funding from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Up to $1,455,000 in federal funding will be awarded to selected eligible applicants. This is the first round of available funding through September 30, 2018.  NCCETC anticipates the final request for proposals to open in May or June 2018. For more information click here.

The CFAT Project supports projects in counties that do not meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards. More than half of North Carolinians live in counties with unhealthy air, and transportation related emissions are a primary contributor to the state’s air quality concerns.

The N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center has partnered with Triangle J, Centralina, Upper Coastal Plain and Kerr-Tar Councils of Governments, and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council to conduct education and outreach regarding alternative fuel and fuel conservation technologies and policies.  Additional CFAT activities include a public education media campaign, an annual recognition of exemplary efforts to reduce transportation related emissions, and an annual Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference.

City to Purchase New CNG Vehicles with Grant in Oklahoma

The City of Norman, Oklahoma, has accepted a grant of $114,104 from the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments for the purchase of two new heavy-duty CNG vehicles for the sanitation division, according to the Norman Transcript.

In 2009, Norman City Council adopted the Norman Alternative Fuel Program and has since become a leader in alternative fuel technology. Out of 101 Public/Private CNG fueling facilities located in the Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG) network, the City of Norman’s CNG Fueling Facility is ranked 10^th in Oklahoma for total volume throughput with a total of nearly 1.3 million GGEs annually.

In 2012, The City of Norman opened a publicly accessible CNG Fueling Facility. The station provides CNG for citizens and city vehicles. The facility was built with the aid of stimulus funds. In 2016, extra storage was added to the station and a smart control panel was added to take advantage of off-peak compressor use.

CMD CNG Energy Solutions Launches New Website

Carnival Orders Second LNG-Powered New Ship for P&O Cruises Brand

Carnival Corporation has signed a shipbuilding contract for a second next-generation cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand with leading German shipbuilder Meyer Werft GmbH that is scheduled to be delivered in 2022. The ship will feature the corporation’s exclusive “green cruising” design as one of the first generation of cruise ships to be powered by LNG both while in port and at sea, which will significantly reduce air emissions with the shipping industry’s most advanced fuel technology.

Similar to a fellow P&O Cruises sister ship due for delivery in 2020, this second new vessel will be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market. It will be 180,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests. Both new ships will be registered in the UK.

In total, Carnival Corporation has agreements in place with leading German and Finnish shipbuilders Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku to build eight LNG-powered cruise ships across four of its 10 global cruise brands with delivery dates between 2018 and 2022—two for AIDA Cruises with expected delivery dates in 2018 and 2021, two for Costa Cruises with expected delivery dates in 2019 and 2021, two for P&O Cruises UK with expected delivery dates in 2020 and 2022, and two for Carnival Cruise Line with expected delivery dates in 2020 and 2022.

LNG Tugboat Ordered by Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has signed a deal for the construction of an LNG-fueled tugboat with Kanagawa Dockyard Co. The construction is slated to start in February 2018 and complete in February 2019, and the launch is scheduled for April of the same year.

The ship will be MOL’s first tugboat powered by LNG, and it will be the first LNG-fueled tugboat in Japan. It is also Japan’s first LNG-fueled tugboat with the LNG fuel tank mounted on the exposed deck at the stern of the ship, which enhances convenience in bunkering, maintenance, and inspection.

The ship will be operated by Nihon Tug-Boat Co., and it will be deployed in Osaka Bay in April 2019. LNG fuel will be supplied by Osaka Gas Co. using a truck-to-ship system. MOL and Osaka Gas will establish an LNG fuel supply system for vessels, which will be the first in Osaka Bay and cooperate in the measures of LNG fuel supply development project conducted by Port and Harbor Bureau of Osaka Prefectural Government at the Sakai-senboku Port.

MOL will move ahead with research on practical use of an LNG fuel supply system with a detachable, portable LNG fuel tank, by adapting this design to the tugboat.
