Maine finalized its BMP on February 12, 2018.  The plan sets aside 15 percent or $3.15 million for electric vehicle charging stations. Forty percent of the funding, $8.4 million, is planned for improvements to the state’s port facilities and rail yards. Approximately $4.2 million, or 20 percent, will be added to the state’s annual funding from a federal program (DERA) to reduce diesel emissions. That program has less stringent restrictions than the Volkswagen settlement, so the state can use it on commercial fishing vessels and farming, construction and lumber equipment. The remaining 25 percent or $5.25 million is directed to projects to on-road projects.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

Public and private schools may have school buses eligible for Maine's Volkswagen (VW) settlement allocation.  Round one will provide $2 million in funding for school buses and applications are due September 15, 2018.  Eligible school buses include 2009 engine model year or older and class 4 school buses.  Applicants for funding must use the application form available at:  https://www1.maine.gov/mdot/vw/application/.
