TruStar to Construct California Sacramento CNG Station

TruStar Energy has won the bid to construct the County of Sacramento’s first CNG fueling station. The station is being designed by Raymundo Engineering. The combination time-fill and fast-fill station will be used primarily to fuel the county’s refuse fleet, but will also have a fast-fill dispenser to fuel other county vehicles. The county has been using LNG since 2004 but only has one LNG station to service two yards. A large bulk tanker currently transports LNG to the second facility, where drivers line up to fuel.

“One of the big issues is we’re then paying our drivers to wait up to 45 minutes for their turn to fuel their vehicle,” said County of Sacramento Department of Waste Management and Recycling Superintendent Chris Celsi. “With the CNG station, our drivers simply plug their trucks in and walk away.”

The time-fill station will be configured to fuel 40 vehicles simultaneously at night. The County doesn’t currently have many CNG-powered fleet vehicles, but will seek them out now that a CNG station is planned. TruStar Energy plans to break ground sometime in the fourth quarter of 2014, and the station should be operational toward the end of March 2015.
