Close to 1,400 Natural Gas Stations Set to Service Clean Transport Industry in 2026
Freight, Refuse & Transport Fleets Lower Fuel Costs & Achieve Clean Air/Ultra Low-to-No Carbon Operations by Deploying Natural Gas Vehicles
Washington, DC – The Transport Project (TTP) recently released its Q4 2025 NGV Refueling Infrastructure Report, revealing a positive trend in compressed natural gas (CNG) station availability nationwide. As we set to begin 2026, the number of existing stations in the United States has risen to 1,385 stations dispensing CNG and 81 stations dispensing liquified natural gas (LNG).
Top states with CNG stations include California (318), Oklahoma (99), Texas (95), Pennsylvania (72), Florida (59), Georgia (49), Wisconsin (44), New York (44), Ohio (43), and Utah (40). Operational CNG stations exist in 47 states plus the District of Columbia.
Key highlights from the report include:
- A two percent increase in CNG stations coming online year-over-year.
- 53 percent of CNG stations are publicly accessible.
- 46 percent offer heavy-duty Class 8 truck access.
- 51 percent of CNG stations nationwide directly dispense renewable natural gas (RNG).
The most recent reportable data from the California LCFS program lists the bio-CNG mix dispensed in that state at -218.89 gCO2e/MJ, allowing NGV fleets fueling in the Golden State to achieve a carbon-negative transportation outcome[1]. Last year, 86 percent of all natural gas motor fuel dispensed for transportation use in the United States was RNG.[2]
A list of public CNG and LNG stations in the U.S. and Canada is accessible on The Transport Project website HERE. Filters exist to highlight vehicle accessibility and RNG dispensing capabilities.
A copy of the full report, including detailed state-by-state data and infrastructure trends, is available exclusively to The Transport Project members via the TTP Member Portal.

The Transport Project is a national coalition of roughly 200 fleets, vehicle and engine manufacturers and dealers, servicers and suppliers, and fuel producers and providers dedicated to the decarbonization of North America’s transportation sector. Through the increased use of gaseous motor fuels including renewable natural gas and hydrogen, the United States and Canada can help achieve ambitious climate goals and greatly improve air quality safely, reliably, and effectively without delay and without compromising existing commercial business operations.
