TTP Issues Safety Reminder on LD Vehicle Cylinder End of Life

The Transport Project Technology & Development Committee this week released an important safety bulletin to emphasize inspection protocols and remind owners and operators of light-duty CNG vehicles to confirm that cylinder end of life (EOL) dates specified on the cylinder or at the vehicle refueling connection have not lapsed. Industry standards, best practices, and manufacturer guidelines specify regular inspection intervals for a vehicle’s CNG cylinder(s) that are an important part of normal fuel system safety checks, and they define a formal process to properly decommission the fuel containers when their EOL date has been reached. TTP encourages all CNG vehicle owners and operators to review this notice and to maintain operational compliance of their vehicles by: (1) checking the last inspection record for the CNG cylinder(s) or the fuel system as a whole to confirm compliance; (2) being fully aware of the EOL date specified on the cylinder label; and (3) to follow manufacturer guidelines if the cylinder(s) is approaching or has exceeded its EOL date.
