American Natural Gas Opens Public CNG Fueling Station in Virginia
American Natural Gas (ANG) has opened a heavy duty fast-fill CNG station in Lynchburg, Virginia. The facility will be open to the public and PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division will be a major customer with its fleet of CNG tractor-trailers.
Located within a mile of the intersection of Lynchburg/Northwest Expressway (US-501) and US-221, the new station will meet regional demand CNG fueling for trucking fleets and will provide easy on-and-off highway access for class 8 vehicles.
“As oil prices continue to rise, it becomes more important than ever to make domestic alternative fueling options available to American fleets,” said Drew West, Chief Executive Officer of ANG. “It also creates new opportunities for fleets located in or traveling through the Central Virginia region that are interested in CNG and exploring the industry’s new zero emission engines. They will now have convenient access to the cleaner, safer and more affordable fuel.”
ANG currently owns and operates approximately 44 fueling stations in 15 states across the US, inclusive of stations in process and under development. This is ANG’s first station in Virginia and the second located in close proximity to a Frito-Lay manufacturing facility.
“Delivering products using a more efficient fleet is a key component of achieving PepsiCo’s goal to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain, and our Frito-Lay CNG tractor-trailers are an important piece of our overall strategy,” said Ken Marko, Senior National Fleet Sustainability Manager, PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay Division.
This Lynchburg station is built around best in class equipment and features fully redundant systems, including a top-of-the-line 250 HP GE compressor packaged by Cobey Energy, with two points of temperature compensation and a Xebec dryer. The station features Bennett CNG dispensers equipped with NGV1 nozzles for light and medium duty use and NGV2 nozzles to accommodate heavy duty and transit vehicles. The fast-fuel station is designed to accommodate high-capacity, large volume users.
“As the natural gas service provider for both American Natural Gas and for Frito-Lay’s Lynchburg manufacturing facility, we are pleased to play a part in making this important and environmentally beneficial fuel option available to the public,” said Brent Archer, president of Columbia Gas of Virginia. “It’s a great example of the essential and expanding role natural gas plays in the daily lives of virtually all Americans.”
