Republic Services Releases 2014 Sustainability Report
Republic Services released its 2014 Sustainability Report, which introduces the Company’s sustainability plan—the preservation of a Blue Planet. The report defines the company’s approach to environmental responsibility through decreased vehicle emissions, innovative landfill technologies, use of renewable energy, community engagement and employee growth opportunities.
Fleet operations is one of three high impact areas Republic Services has identified to meet its sustainability goals. By 2018, the Republic plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the company’s collection vehicles by three percent and develop at least two landfill gas and renewable energy projects per year, resulting in roughly 20,000 tons per year of avoided carbon dioxide.
To date, the Company has converted 2,200 trucks to CNG and has 36 fueling stations nationwide. Republic will also improve efficiencies with its standardized vehicle maintenance program and improved vehicle fuel efficiency and routing.
