CNG Refuse Truck Incident in Indianapolis
• February 3, 2015
On Tuesday morning, a Republic CNG-powered refuse truck caught fire in Indianapolis, Indiana, which resulted in the vent-down and ejection of its CNG cylinders. Shortly after firefighters arrived, one of the five CNG cylinders located on the roof of the truck experienced a thermal/pressure event, which likely also resulted in the rupture of at least one other cylinder and ejected the remaining three cylinders from the vehicle. The Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF), in cooperation with Republic Services and the local authorities, performed a thorough investigation of the incident late last week. CVEF will release a preliminary report soon.
