NGVAMERICA MEMBERS, CLEAN CITY STAKEHOLDERS VISIT CAPITOL HILL

On Tuesday, clean transportation leaders as well as numerous Clean Cities coordinators and stakeholders from across the nation were in Washington, D.C., to educate federal policymakers about the need to expand America’s use of alternative fuels. On the following day, NGVAmerica members met with their Members of Congress to discuss the need for an extension of the fuel and infrastructure credits and the need to expand our use of natural gas as a transportation fuel. The meetings were especially timely as the Senate Finance committee was considering legislation to extend expired tax credits the following day (See previous article). NGVAmerica members were in town for their spring board meeting, while the Clean Cities coordinators and their stakeholders were in town to attend the Transportation Energy Partners-organized Energy Independence Summit. During the summit participants were given the opportunity to interact with top administration officials—including a keynote address by EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy and leaders from the federal Departments of Energy, Defense, and Transportation, as well as from numerous NGVAmerica sponsoring organizations. A combined total over 240 Congressional offices were visited about the need for an extension of the alternative fuel and infrastructure credits as well as the ongoing need for federal support for alternatives to petroleum-based fuels.
