REPUBLIC UNVEILS OREGON CNG FUEL DEPOT

At a ceremony Wednesday morning, Republic Services officially unveiled its new Corvallis, Oregon fueling station that they have constructed to fuel their CNG truck fleet. The fueling station has been operational since Jan. 3rd, with Republic “using a soft opening to get the kinks out,” said Julie Jackson, mid-valley community relations manager. Republic, the trash hauler for Corvallis and Benton County, has purchased 13 new CNG trucks and plans to receive more by the end of 2014. The current fleet runs on a diesel fuel or a biodiesel blend. “The trucks will look a little taller,” Jackson said, “but the biggest difference (customers) will notice is how quiet these trucks are. CNG trucks produce one-tenth the noise decibels of their diesel counterpart. We all are aware of noise in the neighborhoods, but these trucks have the added benefit of providing a quieter ‘workplace’ for our drivers.” Republic plans to have more than 3,000 trucks nationwide running on natural gas and other alternative fuels by the end of 2015.
